With characters who view their World War II experiences as the high point of their lives, Israel Horowitz's Fighting Over Beverley comes off as a poor man's Plenty. But the current West End Players Guild production gives us Dorothy Farmer Davis at the top of her very good game as aging British war bride Beverley, ably supported by Emery Miko as her gruff American husband and Steve Callahan as her loquacious old English boyfriend. Teresa Doggett's energy almost makes credible the role of Beverley's daughter. Sean Ruprecht-Belt's direction keeps the focus clear and the dramatic tension tight until Beverley's climactic speech, when he isolates her from the others, undercutting the moment's dramatic possibilities.
