Robert "Bilbo" Walker and Al Garrett

Tuesday, Aug. 3; Off Broadway

Looking for some credentials? Bilbo Walker's 1996 debut recording, Promised Land (Rooster Blues), made several Top 10 lists that year, and he's been credited as a major influence on legendary Chicago blues-guitar great Magic Sam. Born near Clarksdale, Miss., Walker also earned the nickname "Chuck Berry Jr." for his unique bluesy renditions of Berry classics like "Promised Land" and "Little Queenie" (complete with duck-walkin', as well as some original guitar techniques that might have made Jimi Hendrix do a double-take.)

Garrett moved from Memphis to Los Angeles while still in his teens and soon made a name for himself working with Johnny "Guitar" Watson and Lowell Fulson. In the past few years he's toured often with Walker, and he released his debut recording as a leader, Out of Bad Luck (Fedora), earlier this year.
