The city's finest are joining in a boycott of supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal, a convicted cop-killer now on death row in Pennsylvania. Much to the consternation of police throughout the nation, Abu-Jamal has become a celebrity as he awaits execution for the 1981 slaying of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. Abu-Jamal's allies say he deserves a new trial because he was prosecuted for his political beliefs.

Now the St. Louis Police Officers Association is urging its members to join in a boycott of Abu-Jamal supporters organized by the Fraternal Order of Police. Just who are the cops supposed to avoid? Supermodel Naomi Campbell. Actor Paul Newman. Author Norman Mailer. Filmmakers Oliver Stone and Spike Lee. Plus such musical groups as the Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine and R.E.M., no doubt all favorites of those who serve and protect.
