Last week, Bill and Nancy Laurie were described in this space as son-in-law and daughter to Sam Walton. Wrong. Laurie is the late Sam's niece and the daughter of Bud Walton. As for corrections, the Blues' news release on the new owners stated, "The Blues' former ownership group privately funded the $135 million cost of building the Kiel Center." That statement fails to mention the $35 million the city spent to demolish the old Kiel and build garages. Let's not go into the $1-a-year, 100-year lease for the city-owned land on which Kiel Center is built. The $135 million might have built a place to play if the partners had put it on a cow pasture they owned somewhere, but not downtown. The good news is the new Blues owners have mucho dinero, an estimated billion bucks. To get an idea of how much moolah that is, if Bill Laurie went to the blackjack table and met the $500 loss limit every day, it would take him 5,479 years to blow all his cash.
