She is the Lee of Mai Lee, the proprietress explains patiently. When she came over from Saigon at age 25, she spoke no English, "nothing," Lee says. "But we have to learn and go to work." She began by cooking the same food in Chinese restaurants she'd been preparing for Vietnamese wedding parties. Her most popular dish is shrimp with garlic butter. "I was the first Vietnamese restaurant to open in St Louis." Lee says.
