A toast to a new Lafayette Square wine bar

It's a wine bar! It's a wine store! It's two, two, two sips in one!

Submitted for your consideration: A new Lafayette Square establishment called 33, which bills itself as a "wine shop and tasting bar." Pull up a stool at the bar or at one of the cabaret tables and talk wine with Jake Hafner, a certified sommelier (restaurant wine twink) who's equally adept talking Brix and terroir as he is introducing first-timers to the world of wine.

The great gimmick here is that you can sit and swill for the same price as you would if you took the bottle home with you (unless the retail price is under $20, in which case a $5 corkage fee is added). The main wine list has about 50 bottles, but if you don't find anything that appeals to you, ask for the bin list, which has close to 150 bottles, mostly $30 and under but topping out with a 1986 Chateau Cheval Blanc for a mere $330. You're currently limited to bread and cheese as an accompaniment for your beverages (which also include a nice beer list), but more food may be on the way soon, as well as a patio, opening in back.

The place gets its name from the year Prohibition was repealed, and it's located in the ground floor at 1913 Park, in a set of buildings that's the ancestral home of the RFT. Drink up!
