Eastern Exposure

Kabob International ups the tally of Middle Eastern restaurants in St. Louis

As it turns out, Babylon International isn't the only new restaurant on South Grand where you can get a falafel fix and a gyros high. Just a block farther south and across the street, another new place, with the similar name of Kabob International (3200 S. Grand, 314-771-3411), opened at right about the same time last fall. This place focuses geographically on Persia (modern-day Iran) but reaches from Greece to India for menu influences.

More About

Specialties of the house include osh, a full-bodied herbed lentil soup perfect for the middle of winter, as well as the namesake kebabs. Oversized pitas run about $5.50 and include, in addition to chicken, lamb and beef, vegetarian selections of falafel and shami, a cubed patty of yellow split peas, soy and eggs.

Right now Kabob International is a lunch-only spot, open 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. daily.
