Best Actor

Terry Meddows

Terry Meddows is like a theatergoer's insurance agent; whenever he walks onstage, you know you're in good hands. Meddows has had quite a year. From his wonderfully wacky small-time thug in the ECHO Theatre Company production of Criminal Genius to the chilling desperation of his George in Vanity Theatre's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, from his beguiling widower in the musical Working to his gay pharaoh in The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told (both at the HotHouse Theatre Company), Meddows' performances have been fresh and assured. He doesn't try to hide behind crepe mustaches or tricky glasses; instead, he finds the core of each character. That's enough to individualize his roles -- and to make Meddows the most reliably original and accomplished actor in town.
