OK, so there wasn't a lot of competition for this category. But when something is good it deserves recognition, and the St. Louis Rep's rendition of Georges Feydeau's classic A Flea in Her Ear was very good indeed. The frantic French farce about marital mix-up and mistaken identity was directed with stop-on-a-dime-and-give-you-change pacing by John Going and featured wildly creative performances by Jeffries Thaiss as an adulterer with a cleft palate and Anderson Matthews as a staid, put-upon husband brought to the precipice of madness. Matthews works a lot at the Rep. Watch for him. Even in lesser productions, his appearances are usually synonymous with the best the company has to offer.
