Best Month to Be in St. Louis

October

Nestled in the space between the choking heat of summer and the bitter cold of winter is the month of October. But the tenth month that means "eighth month" in Latin isn't fabulous in St. Louis just because the temperature rarely rises above 70 or below 40. For little ones, October means a trip to the pumpkin patch, scampering through dark tunnels made from hay bales while clutching a flashlight with tiny fingers. It means rehearsing a joke that follows "trick or treat" on Halloween night. For the older set, there's a festival for just about any passion, whether you're into jazz, beer, Missouri crafts or Christopher Columbus. If a road trip beckons, it is just a hop, skip and a short train or car ride out to Hermann for Octoberfest celebrations that come complete with "oompah" polka bands and steins filled with cold beer. Still not convinced? Then take a walk in Forest Park or a drive along the Great River Road in Illinois to see the red, orange and yellow show that nature has to offer.
