What's the Most Impulsive Thing You've Ever Done with a Credit Card?

"Miami. I just got off work and went to the Clevelander in South Beach, where I met a very nice lady on vacation from New York. We hit it off, and she gave me her credit card and said, 'Do whatever you want.' So we went shopping. Went out the next day, chartered a fishing boat -- that cost $1,100 by itself. Then we put on our new clothes and hit the Fontainebleau for dinner. I signed her name to everything, and it came to $3,200 in two days."

"The most impulsive thing I did with my credit cards was to cut them up -- to say no to conspicuous consumption and corporate America's control of my finances. I am the parent of five future consumers, and I felt like I had to do it to set a good example for them."

Beverly Hayden
Art Photographer
"The most impulsive thing was in my previous life, when I was practicing law. I decided I didn't want to go to work one day and bought a plane ticket that afternoon for New Orleans. Had a fabulous weekend doing Bourbon Street, House of Blues, Tipitina's, hurricanes all around. I just needed a break, and Visa made it happen."

"I once let a friend use my card to the tune of about $2,500. She was depressed. It was a rainy day. I was like, 'Sure, why not?' By the end of the day she had a big-screen TV, a new stereo, a washer and a vacuum. She promised to pay me back. I never saw any of it."

Phil Jarvis
Airbrush Maestro
"Well, I took this gal to Italy, and I hardly even knew her. It wasn't that impulsive, but it was extravagant."

Moe Malarky
Neighborhood-Watch Captain
"Let's see, one day I was driving along Grand and there, on the right, was an adult novelty shop, so I decided to go in and buy something. And it was a pink vibrator with the iridescent pearls and a stimulator -- oh, and it's wireless, so there's no boundaries. It was called 'The Wabbit,' just like the one Charlotte used in Sex and the City -- and that wascally Wabbit found a hole."
