An amazing aged Gouda has just arrived from the Cheese of the Month Club and you're dying to devour it with a glass or three of Champagne. Okay, okay. You're trying to get rid of leftovers and it's a beautiful day outside. Es macht nichts. You'll find no better picnic spot than Tower Grove Park, which stretches from Grand Boulevard to Kingshighway in south St. Louis. Spread out a blanket beneath one of the 8,000 imported trees and shrubs. Or grab a picnic table in one of the elaborate and colorful Victorian pavilions. Listen for warblers chirping and little kids screaming in the fountain and wading pool. If you have any energy left after eating all that cheese, there are plenty of open grassy spots for a game of bocce or croquet. If you really want to impress your date, call the park office in advance and make reservations for a horse-drawn carriage ride. You romantic devil, you.
