This Week's Day-by-Day Picks

Week of February 2, 2005

Tuesday, February 8Well, that was certainly a long weekend. Mardi Gras, Spinks vs. Judah fight, Super Bowl -- and then you had to go to work. There's no way you'll recover from all that fun in time to get any real work done. So don't. Call in sick Monday, then leave early on Tuesday, so you can get one last lick of fun in. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras Parade runs from 19th and Locust streets to the intersection of Broadway and Washington Avenue. Surely you can find something along the way with which to amuse yourself -- maybe in the Bud Light Party Zone, a swath of Tenth Street between Locust and Washington where street performers run rampant, automobiles are forbidden, and potables and comestibles are in abundant supply. Admission is free, food and drinks cost extra, and more information and a map are available at www.mardigrasinc.com. After all, you have 40 days to rest your liver.

Have you ever been this close to a persimmon in your
life? You can get even closer on Thursday at Elliot
Smith Contemporary Art.
