Days of Being Wild (A Fei jing juen). (Not Rated) Defining his unique, hypnotic style in his second feature, Wong Kar-Wai establishes a palpable, painful longing for satisfying self-definition and fulfilling relationships. In 1960s Hong Kong six characters intersect, anchored by a drifter irresistible to the two women he emotionally abuses while he fixates on finding the mother he's never known. Different individuals' memories, expressed in periodic voiceover, support the disjointed flashback narrative that relies on superb acting by Leslie Cheung, Carina Lau, Maggie Cheung and Andy Lau. As with In the Mood for Love, cinematographer Christopher Doyle composes evocative images and floats his camera through darkly atmospheric locations minimally relieved with splashes of neon and color. This poetic film explores identity and alienation through a dreamlike canvas. Screens at 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, through Sunday, May 22, in the Moore Auditorium on the campus of Webster University, 470 E Lockwood Ave. Call 314-968-7487 for more information.
