Dressy Bessy is, to steal a phrase from David Mamet, cute as a Chinese baby. All adorable mops of hair, bright colors and soft edges, the band is to the legendary Elephant 6 collective what Cousin Oliver was to the Brady Bunch: not technically part of the family and a little late to the party, but still so gosh-darn huggable that you just shake your head and let him join the fun. Although Bessy, originally formed by vocalist/guitarist Tammy Ealom, used to seem like a side project for Apples in Stereo guitarist John Hill -- who joined the group in 1998 -- Dressy Bessy has kept it cute and catchy long after the Apples seem to have withered. And why not? The sorta-psychedelic but totally harmless pop Bessy releases is as ageless as all the best retro music.
Show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8; call 314-727-4444 for more information.
