Suzanne Vega

Wednesday, August 10; the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard)

Sure, there's the after-school-special classic, "Luka," and the burbly electro-folk of "99.9 F°," but Suzanne Vega's most significant mark on the music landscape has undoubtedly been "Tom's Diner." It tops the list of songs that get stuck in one's head and won't ever let go, which is probably why it's been remixed countless times. Without a question, the strangest and most hilarious redux of the song comes from the capable hands of mash-up master Danger Mouse, who paired Vega's ceaselessly addictive "doo-doo-doo-doo"s with 50 Cent's banging "In Da Club" before taking on the infamous Grey Album project. Anyone wondering where Vega's been all these years should start with Retrospective: The Best of Suzanne Vega, a 2003 album that includes both classic tracks like "Left of Center" and singles from her lesser-known work, such as 2001's Songs in Red and Gray.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30; call 314-726-6161 for more information.
