Chris Mills and the New Miserable Bastards

Friday, September 2; Frederick's Music Lounge (4454 Chippewa Street)

We're just going to go ahead and claim alt-country troubadour Chris Millsas one of our own. Sure, he's a Chicago boy now -- and he's traveled the nation with the auspicious likes of Califone, Wilco and the Handsome Family -- but the singer-songwriter grew up in Collinsville, Illinois. Mills rocks under the influence of teenage idols Uncle Tupelo and early Elvis Costello (particularly on the raucous "Sleeptalking"), but his music is both an homage to and a reinterpretation of the dreamy folk ballads and barroom toe-tappers he admires. His new LP, The Wall to Wall Sessions, is available only at his CD-release party in Chicago -- and at Fred's on Friday night. Thanks, Chris, and welcome home.

Show starts at 9 p.m. Call 314-351-5711 for ticket prices and more information.
