SeepeopleSThursday, September 1; Cicero's (6691 Delmar Boulevard, University City)By Christian SchaefferPublished on August 31, 2005When those in the jam-band sector attempt politically conscious music, the message can usually be summed up in three words: Legalize it, brah. But if you read your issues of The Economistwhile listening to Zappa, SeepeopleSis for you. Now based in Asheville, North Carolina -- but with roots in St. Louis -- the band ties its music and its message together through odd juxtapositions. Coherent thoughts on corporate America and political impotence are fused with laid-back jams -- i.e., the lyrics read like Propagandhi essays, but the music drifts from light dub (on the trippy "Dinosaur") to jazz-noir (on "Man Will Win," which features a guest spot from former Morphine saxman Dana Colley). In a word: decent. In four words: Groove against the machine. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 to $9; call 314-862-0009 for more information.
