"I'm the dyke who will give it to you," sings Indigo Girl Amy Ray on Prom, her second solo album. But Prom isn't a vagina monologue, and its author isn't a folkie -- at least not with a band poached from garage rockers Nineteen Forty-Five and queer punks Team Dresch, who slosh and slash Ray's stories of the South she survived (i.e., the horror and joy of high school sex and driver's education). She's still preaching, but it's pure guitars and drums pounding the sermons home, as she subsumes her solo self in the leather and metal of a rock ensemble.
Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 advance, $14 at the door; call 314-534-1111 for more information.
