Bill Keaggy's Junk Science
If you have one of those stultifying office jobs with an Internet connection, and you're looking for more ways to while away those weekday afternoons, prepare to be amazed at the electronic wonderland that is www.keaggy.com. The repository for much of local artist (and St. Louis Post-Dispatch features picture editor) Bill Keaggy's various obsessions, www.keaggy.com features photographs of rocks that resemble shoes, found grocery lists, interesting rust patterns, the unremarkable doors of St. Louis, buildings with trees growing out of them, and about a hundred other strange and unusual collections. Keaggy has selected some of his favorite photos and objects for Junk Science, his new mixed-media show at the Center of Creative Arts (524 Trinity Avenue, University City; 314-725-6555 or www.cocastl.org). "My projects are about the life behind everything we leave behind," Keaggy says in his project statement. And while lost scraps of paper and rust overtaking buildings are so ubiquitous as to be ignored, Keaggy's careful, almost studious documentation of them gives these things a sense of importance; they hold your attention and make you realize how much strangeness and decay surrounds us modern folk. Junk Science opens tonight with a 6-to-8-p.m. reception and then remains up through Sunday, June 11.
