Man, I love Florence

Let's lay all the cards on the table: We love Florence. That's Florence, Italy, not TV's Mrs. Brady, Florence Henderson. Mind you, we've never been to Florence, but that's only because of the great distance that separates Italy from America. Were Florence but a few thousand miles closer, we'd walk there with a vengeance. But you know, absence makes the heart grow fonder, and our steady diet of Volpi's Toscano Salame has helped to drive our passion for the region to untold heights. So, with salame in hand (that didn't come out right) and a spring in our step, we shall hop down the street to the Regional Arts Commission (6128 Delmar Boulevard; 314-863-5811 or www.stlrac.org) for tonight's 5:30-to-8:30-p.m. opening reception of Quattro Prospettive/Four Perspectives. This selection of drawings and photographs focuses on the unexpected images of Florence's architecture and urban spaces, as captured by Zueler Lima, Carl Safe, Francesco Visconti and Susan Hacker Stang. Stang's Polaroid emulsion transfers have a soft-edged, romantic haze, imparting the dream-like beauty we imagine is de rigueur in Florence. Quattro Prospettive/Four Perspectives remains up through Sunday, June 4.
