Here at Night & Day Global Industries, we'd prefer to amble through things rather than rush — who needs the hurrying headache? So that would be the reason we're just getting around to telling you about the 2006 Italian Film Festival of St. Louis. Sure, the fest is on its last weekend, but you still have the opportunity to see two great works, so let's not waste any more time. Tonight's award-winning film, screening at 8 p.m., is Caterina va in città, a story about a girl (that'd be Caterina) who has difficulty adjusting to her new life after moving from the countryside to Rome. With a little bit of comedy and some drama for good measure, this is perfect for a Friday night. And I cento passi, also screening at 8 p.m., closes out the festival tomorrow night (Saturday, April 15). This Golden Globe-nominated film explores the life and death of Peppino Impastato, a boy who grew up in the mob-run town of Cinisi, Sicily, and had the courage to stand up against the Mafia. You don't have to watch The Sopranos to get an idea of how this true story turns out. All films are shown at Brown Hall on Washington University's campus (Forsyth and Skinker boulevards) in Italian with English subtitles, and all screenings are free.
