Looking Good

While reality-TV mainstays such as Bravo's Project Runway have helped remove some of the mystery about where new fashion designers come from, the very nature of TV still makes it seem as if designers are somehow not like the rest of us. You know, that they're a special breed, that they sprout fully formed from the forehead of Karl Lagerfeld with an extra-foam latte in hand and a kicky little outfit in mind — or something like that. The truth is, many fashion designers are regular people who go to school like the rest of us in order to learn their trade — they would never, ever pair that top with those ridiculous Sansabelt slacks you're wearing, but otherwise, they're essentially just like you. Only more stylish. Really, what's with the pants? The junior and senior students of Lindenwood University's Fashion Design Program showcase both their localness and their stylishness this evening with a special fashion show at Lord & Taylor Court at Westfield Shoppingtown West County (Manchester Road and I-270, Des Peres). After a 7:30 p.m. Champagne reception, enjoy the latest in sportswear, swimwear, evening wear and even bridal gowns, all designed by Lindenwood students. Tickets for the show and reception are $25 (call 636-949-4878 for reservations), and proceeds benefit the Lindenwood Fashion Design Department. And for Mizrahi's sake, wear something nice.
