Shoplifting

Saturday, April 29, at 8 p.m. Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center (3301 Lemp Avenue)

Shoplifting is typically an act of desperation: for goods, for attention or for exhilaration. And for the Seattle quartet of the same name, music is no less reckless. True punks Hannah Blilie, Devin Welch, Melissa Lock and Chris Pugmire have risen from the land of sleepy grunge and awakened on the Sleater-Kinney side of the bed, with an earsplitting vengeance for queer/feminist rights set to earnestly disjointed music. Their erratically staccato and dissonant punk has shoulder chips of new-wave, their aggression pinning them as riot grrrls (and boys) ready to steal your soul. But in reality, Shoplifting echo Bratmobile fresh from a filching; they could easily be rattling tin cans against prison bars with a sound so unapologetic and clamorous.
