I'm loathe to compare any modern rock act to the Band, but I'll give a qualified pass to Nova Scotia's the Trews. Few other acts from the Great White North have tried so hard to sound like they hail from the American South. The Trews have no discernable traces of folk or acoustic music in their glossy production and instead opt for more radio-ready Southern rock. There's a little bit of Chris Robinson's vibro-shimmy in Colin MacDonald's voice; "Poor Ol' Broken Hearted Me" capitalizes on this with a tight-harmony a capella intro and heaps of Leslie-affected guitar and organ.
