Crime in Stereo

Friday, May 5, at 8 p.m. Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center (3301 Lemp Avenue)

Long before Long Island was the breeding ground for emo crossover acts such as Taking Back Sunday and Brand New, it was an underground hardcore mecca that thrived via bands such as Silent Majority and Clockwise, whose only fault was being too far ahead of their time. With their Nitro Records debut, The Troubled Stateside, Strong Island's own Crime in Stereo resurrect their '90s forefathers but add a modern slant that keeps their music from sounding dated. Recalling similarly politically outspoken acts like Strike Anywhere and Good Riddance, Crime in Stereo's infectious brand of melodic hardcore is credible enough for purists (see the NYHC-inspired anthem, "Everything Changes/Nothing Is Ever Truly Lost") but accessible enough for their younger peers to embrace as well.
