Now that the president has decided to deploy National Guard troops to protect our border with Mexico, he should focus his attention on our pesky northern neighbors. Over the past few years, Canada's indie bands have been shaming the domestic variety with their range, ingenuity and kick-assitude. Victoria, British Columbia, residents Frog Eyes have yet to receive the acclaim accorded to the Arcade Fire or Broken Social Scene — and good thing, too. If too many American indie kids heard frontman Carey Mercer's haunting roar, oblique lyrics and dense, dramatic arrangements, Tom Waits might be out of a job. Build a wall, Mr. President.
