Music news you can use

C'mon Heidi, light my fire: Nashville singer-songwriter-firefighter (really) Heidi Schwartz is a musical pyromaniac. She strums one string and sets her guitar ablaze; she sings one note and it billows into a torch. Between her heated pop performance and fiery red hair, the Red Sea (6511 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-863-0099) might want to have some extra extinguishers on hand. Gather around the fire with Schwartz at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 1, with Elements Of, Jeff Horwitz, Virginia Reel and Pachyderm. Five bucks — marshmallows not included.

Coming to take you away:John Lennon once infamously proclaimed that the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. While the statement caused scandal the world 'round, it must have resonated with the minds behind The Miracle Mystery Tour, who are now promoting their religious endeavor with a play on the famous Beatles' album title. The free event will roll up, roll up to Tower Grove Park (4256 Magnolia Avenue; 314-771-4410) Saturday, June 3, from noon to 8 p.m. There will be music, games, art demos and a drum circle, all in the hope of spreading Jesus' name.

Ever smilin': Bluegrass legend and banjo aficionado John Hartford's star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame is well deserved: He penned 30 albums and the single "Gentle on my Mind," which is one of the most widely recorded country songs ever. Five years ago, Hartford lost his battle to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The Folk School of St. Louis will honor his spirit with "Rivers of My Memory: A Celebration of the Life and Music of John Hartford," at the Sheldon (3648 Washington Boulevard; 314-533-9900) Tuesday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. The Grass Pack, The Ill-Mo Boys, Lodge Brothers, the Lonesome Pines and Wil Maring & Robert Bowlin will perform songs from Hartford's repertoire. The $15 cover benefits the Folk School of St. Louis.
