Fancy Fest
One of the nicest surprises Ms. Day had last summer happened when she met a friend at the Whitaker Music Festival. See, Day left straight from the office, sans food and wine, and was planning on just purchasing dinner and drinks from the vendors at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard; 314-577-9400 or www.mobot.org). But lo and behold, this kind friend had prepared a wonderful spread of fancy cheeses, fresh fruits, garlicky artichoke dip, whole-grain crackers, pinot noir and homemade chocolate-chip cookies — it was a picnic fit for a queen! Ms. Day dined and laughed and drank while she enjoyed good company and good music during this night of the summer concert series. Ahhh, what a lovely time!
So why don't you make someone feel special with a catered trip to the Whitaker? Jazz pianist Peter Martin starts off the series Wednesday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the fest is free, and if you're busy tonight (or know lots of people worthy of surprises), the concerts continue on Wednesday evenings through August 9.
