For Discount Firearm singer Brett Lohmeyer, passing out at the end of a set is a good sign. It means that he used every last ounce of energy on stage to woo a crowd. "Of course, I'm so out of shape I'm winded by the second song," he admits. Physical ability aside, Lohmeyer's vocals pack a solid punch for the emo-rock band. Though lyrics on the band's first album, Forgive Me, sometimes cry for old girlfriends (as emo bands are prone to doing), the vocals are delivered in forceful yells rather than shriveling into pitiful whimpers. With two guitarists, Jeff Schuerman and Kevin Solorio, Discount Firearm combines melodious interludes with drilling choruses in a similar fashion to Silverstein or Hawthorne Heights. Onstage, all the band members tend to fade into the background, however, letting Lohmeyer work up enough sweat for them all.
