The Promise Ring and the Dismemberment Plan broke up several years ago, but — thank Poseidon! — their wry, entwined band ghosts have been resurrected as Maritime. Promise Ring members Davey von Bohlen and Dan Didier, along with D-Plan's Eric Axelson on bass (who's since left the group) founded a sound so rich that it runneth over, as if having, say, been Built to Spill. Maritime takes a lilting and light tone, as spacey as if von Bohlen were fronting The Cardigans. And while they occasionally dip into the expected emo tide, Maritime seem relieved to ride the posi-core revolution of their mid-'90s superfans on this year's We Are the Vehicles.
