The Three Rs

Reading, 'riting and rapping

Kids say the darnedest things. Give them a microphone and a camera, though, and they might really blow you away. That's the thinking behind Point-of-View: 2Read+2Write=4Music, an exhibit featuring photos taken by a group of ten- to thirteen-year-olds participating in an after-school program in the Jennings School District. The kids have been learning how to write and record their own rap songs — and they've been taking pictures of one another over the course of the program. Now, in conjunction with the Public Policy Research Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, a selection of the photographs is being displayed at the William D. Tharp Civic Center (8720 Jennings Station Road, Jennings). The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Tuesday, September 26. For more information call UMSL's Public Policy Research Center at 314-516-5273 or visit pprc.umsl.edu.
