Let's face it: As far as touring indie-pop bands go, St. Louis is too often neglected. But when fab Athens, Georgia, indie label Happy Happy Birthday To Me (home of Bunnygrunt) puts on their annual multi-day popfest in August, we get to see a few of the bands as they make their way to or from Athens. This year Patience Please, a newish Seattle quartet, stops by on their way down south. Formed by members of Northwest regional faves Paxil Rose and Suretoss, their debut EP, Parallel Plots, finds a band in love with indie-rock loud/soft dynamics, fragile pop songwriting, traded boy-girl harmonies and a splash of new-wave synths. It all suggests an energetic and crowd-pleasing live band. (Full disclosure: The author has played in bands and/or released records with Patience Please's drummer and keyboardist.)
