Ah, Books
There are items you never want to buy used. Underwear and dental floss immediately come to mind. But used books? Used books are a mitzvah. A pre-read book suffers not at all from a cautious prior owner and, in fact, can be enhanced by the experience. Who hasn't felt that thrill of kinship with the previous reader when a book falls open to a particularly beautiful (or juicy) passage? See, we're all the same. So go get yourself a couple of nice used books from the Jewish Community Center's Used Book Sale at the JCC (2 Millstone Campus Drive, Creve Coeur; 314-442-3281). The sale opens at 10 a.m. Sunday, August 13, and admission is $8; the sale continues (with free admission) through Sunday, August 20, but is closed on Saturday, August 19.
