Go Greek!

The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church's 89th annual Greek Festival has nothing to do with sororities and fraternities — but it does have much to do with Greek culture. And Greek food — yes! — which makes this all-weekend party as sweet as the baklava sundaes served! In addition to those tasty desserts and others (there's a 100-foot-long pastry table!), you can also try out kebabs, spanikopita (spinach pie), saganaki (flaming cheese), gyros and much more, but you better clean up those hands before you browse the imported jewelry and gifts — no one wants your messy hands all over the nice wares. Then, after you're through shopping, grab a seat and a glass of wine while a Greek dance group performs on one of two stages, or tour the pretty church's sanctuary (at 1, 2:30, 5 and 6:30 p.m.). All of this Greek-weekend fun happens at Forest Park Avenue and South Kingshighway Boulevard from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday (September 2 through 4), and admission is free. Call the church at 314-361-6924 or visit www.stnicholas.missouri.goarch.org for more information.
