Gotta Get Back in Time

Now, Ms. Day knows how very many festivals there are this weekend, and she understands that you might be having a difficult time deciding which one(s) to grace with your presence. But you have to trust her on this: You must attend the Jersey County Victorian Festival, which is held on the Hazel Dell Farm (one mile north of Jerseyville, Illinois, on Route 67) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Monday (September 2 through 4). Sure, like all the other fests, this one has food, arts and crafts, and entertainment (Civil War-style songs and such) — but this has to be the only event this weekend with a live stagecoach stick-up, courtesy of the James Gang! The robbery happens daily at noon (you'd think that coachman would learn his lesson after the first time), and this fear is fun for all ages! Plus, the kiddos can grab a ride on a surrey and dig up potatoes, while the adults relive the Gettysburg Address with President Lincoln at 12:30 p.m. and a Civil War battle at 2:30 p.m. Admission for all of this olde-tyme excitement costs $2 to $6, and parking is free; for more information call 618-498-5590 or visit www.greatriverroad.com/vicfest.htm.
