Support for the Arts?

It's in the sauce

For many barbecue is a fine art, and recipes are handed down from sauce artisans to inquiring friends and family. Similarly, St. Louis ArtWorks teams at-risk youth with working arts professionals, so the experts can pass along their knowledge in myriad disciplines, including painting, dance and photography. So what could be more appropriate for ArtWorks' eleventh-anniversary celebration than a full-fledged Art-B-Q? This benefit is an old-fashioned cookout with an arts twist: Nancy Kranzberg & the Second Half Band provide live entertainment, attendees can help create a mural slated to hang in Grand Center, and people can place bids on apprentice artwork in a silent auction.

The Art-B-Q begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Centene Center for the Arts (3547 Olive Street). Tickets are $40 in advance or $45 at the door, and the proceeds benefit ArtWorks' apprenticeship efforts. For more information call 314-289-4181 or visit www.stlartworks.org.
