St. Louis, 1986: Washington Avenue was derelict, the Cards had Tommy Herr on second, and business owners in the Chesterfield Valley were wondering if they'd need flood insurance. And somebody decided to showcase local artists — huh? — in the Old Post Office downtown. These days St. Louis has a hoppin' gallery scene, the premiere art festival in the region, and the Atrium Gallery (now at 4729 McPherson Avenue) still thrives. Help the Atrium celebrate two decades of cultural relevance at 10 for 20, a group show featuring the original artists — Peter Charlap, Leila Daw, Ellen Glasgow, Carl Goldhagen, Art Kleinman, Karen Kunc, Fredrick Nelson, Jim Nickel, Doug Salveson and Janet Sorokin — to show at the very first Atrium Gallery exhibition. Each artist displays two pieces, one from the good old days and one current work. 10 for 20 opens with a free reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 7; the show remains up through Sunday, October 22.
