The Ambiguous He

When last we left Derrick Mosley, he had lit out for New York, pockets laden with cash from a sold-out first pressing of his illustrated novel, The Meadowcroft Ambiguities. Mosley's strange fiction about the life and work of cartoonist August Karl Schwartz (as refracted through the mind of critic Martin Blanquist) is dense, the prose gnomic and almost opaque with allusion — and yet the cautious reader gleans hours of enjoyment from unraveling the twin trails of Schwartz and Blanquist. Mosley reads from and signs copies of a new printing at 7 p.m. at the Delmar Restaurant & Lounge (6235 Delmar Boulevard; 314-725-6565). Each volume of the new printing comes with a unique cover illustration created by Mosley for the occasion.
