Clouds on the Horizon

The Museum of Contemporary Religious Art (3700 West Pine Mall; 314-977-7170 or mocra.slu.edu) has exhibited Andy Warhol's Silver Clouds before (in 2002, actually), but something as elegant and magical as Silver Clouds is welcome anytime. And so this latest installation of Silver Clouds, which opens with a free public reception from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 10, and continues at the MOCRA through Sunday, December 17, is like a surprise visit from a favorite uncle. Warhol's Clouds are actually Mylar balloons that float freely throughout the gallery; it sounds simple, but the cumulative effect of these pillow-shape balloons floating and drifting around visitors is similar to standing under a streetlight during a gentle snow — but without the runny nose. Some may choose to enjoy the show with friends, but we prefer a solitary visit with the iPod blasting "I Heard Her Call My Name." It just seems right.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 10. Continues through Dec. 17
