Go-Go to Boots

So after receiving a BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute, an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a few awards and accolades, what's a St. Louis artist to do? Why, join with some of his artist friends from across the nation (and the world), and establish an art gallery right here on Cherokee Street! Well, at least that's what Juan William Chàvez did. You can check out the fruits of his labor, as well as the work of his partners — Georgia Kotretsos (Athens, Greece), Jonathan Peck (Miami) and Bryan Reckamp (San Francisco) — when Boots Contemporary Art Space kicks off in its just-rehabbed shotgun building at 2307 Cherokee Street. Friday, October 13, marks the opening of the inaugural exhibition, The Politics of Friendship, in this "art laboratory," and the artists mentioned previously, along with five others, debut the new digs. The free reception for the show runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 13, and the gallery's hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday every week thereafter. For more details about the art space, those involved, and their plans to host international emerging artists and start up an art mag, visit www.bootsart.com. And note: Boots are not the required footwear in the gallery.
Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Oct. 14. Continues through Dec. 4
