If the Used's stadium-packing screamo put Utah post-hardcore on the map, then Form of Rocket's meaner, uglier take on post-hardcore has taken a sort of alternate route through more dangerous territory. Formed in 2000, the Salt Lake City group picks up the early-'90s noise-rock torch as if Amphetamine Reptile Records had never closed its doors, lumbering through songs with a muscular combo of crooked time signatures, abrasive riffs and drill-sergeant vocals. On their upcoming third full-length, the aptly titled Men, Form of Rocket prove they've not been made less masculine by a seemingly unending wave of lineup changes — the latest of which saw frontman (and manly man) Curtis Jensen leaving for Wyoming because, according to the band's news page, "he watched Brokeback Mountain and had to go." Whatever the case, the resulting loss of manpower has somehow given the band's sound more meatiness. Figuratively speaking, of course.
