Sometimes when we write about an event that's dubbed an "extravaganza," said happening is not as extravagant as one would hope. That's absolutely not the case with the Winter Extravaganza: An Evening of Song and Dance! put on by the Danse Arts Company at the West County Family YMCA (16464 Burkhardt Place, Chesterfield). Everyone and everything holiday is going to be there: We're talking about the Grinch and the Sugar Plum Fairy, Hanukkah surprises and angels — and additional special guests each night! The performances take place at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday (November 30 and December 1), and before each show there's an extra, added bonus: a Land of Sweets reception! From 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., hot chocolate, lemonade and coffee are served alongside sweet treats. Participating in the pre-show extravaganza costs $12 per person (deals are offered for families), and the extravaganza itself runs $8 to $12. Purchase your tickets by calling the YMCA at 636-532-3100, and learn more about the extraordinarily good time at www.wildwood-dance.com.
