Team Vegetable doesn't get a lot of play this time of year, mostly because Ham and Turkey are hogging all of the attention. And when the veggies do get some action, they're usually smothered under a creamy soup or slathered up with cheese. Poor vegetables! The St. Louis Vegetarian Society does them up right, though, and this group showcases our meat-free friends at the Holiday Potluck Dinner tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of St. Louis (6501 Wydown Boulevard, Clayton). During the supper you'll have the opportunity to chomp on a tossed salad, savor the tofu-vegetable shepherd's pie and warm up with the vegetable barley soup. Plus, other vegan and vegetarian dishes will be served including something you bring, if you want to share. Admission to the dinner costs $5 with a dish and a list of ingredients or $10 without; you can also bring along an unwrapped children's toy or book to donate to Food Outreach. For more information about the potluck, call the society at 314-995-2699 or visit www.geocities.com/thestlvs.
