Can't Quit the Blues may be the title of Buddy Guy's recently issued career retrospective box set, but it could just as easily serve as his personal motto. Having recently celebrated his 70th birthday, Guy is busier than ever operating his Chicago club, endorsing guitars and amplifiers, and touring more than 200 nights a year. The guitar styles of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton all hugely influential in their own right owe a heavy debt to Guy, and he continues to propagate his screaming, high-energy sound through collaborations with younger players such as Keb' Mo' and John Mayer. But while his sound may be oft-imitated, Guy's explosive, unpredictable live shows simply can't be duplicated.
