St. Louis Ska Revival2:30 p.m. Friday, December 29. Creepy Crawl (3524 Washington Boulevard).By Christian SchaefferPublished on December 26, 2006 at 11:31pmIn the early-to-mid-'90s, bands in St. Louis were central to the launching of ska's third wave (the first and second waves having originated in Jamaica and England, respectively). Acts like MU330, the Urge and the Secret Cajun Band mixed ska's backbeat and horns with the energy and attitude of punk. If you're ready to relive the madness, break out your checkerboard slacks for the St. Louis Ska Revival, featuring headliner Dan Potthast. Potthast, a St. Louis native who now lives in Santa Cruz, California, sings a toned-down, sometimes acoustic version of the kinetic pop-punk he plays in MU330. Also on the nine-band bill are the youngsters in the Skatomic Bombs, who are the latest in the noble lineage of adding "ska" to every damn word.
