Before it was all about posturing and popular fashion, hardcore was synonymous with fun and positivity traits that Edinboro, Pennsylvania's Hank Jones is trying to bring back to the forefront. Although its new seven-inch is titled Hey Boys, There's Beer & Pizza in the Fridge...Love Mom, the band's music is anything but a joke. In fact, instead of relying on parody (like the hardcore goofs of Good Clean Fun), Hank Jones' lyrics often take on a personal bent and bring a fresh perspective to seasoned topics such as scene politics and social responsibility. Sure, the music is undeniably old-school-influenced, but Hank Jones' ability to avoid hardcore's machismo clichés make its two-minute anthems stirringly relevant. Plus, how can you hate on a band that has a song called "Pizza Party"?
