Frigid temperatures and meteorologists' dubious forecasts leave many of us in a perplexed winter state where our first instinct is to burrow back under the covers. If you're feeling a hibernation spell coming on, the Lake Saint Louis Police Department has devised the ultimate wake-up call: the fourth annual Polar Bear Plunge. Registration begins at noon at the Lake Saint Louis Community Association Club House (100 Cognac Court, Lake Saint Louis) for anyone eighteen and older who has raised $50 or more in donations to benefit the Special Olympics Missouri athletes and who also has the desire to take a quick dunk in a frigid lake. Wetsuits are not allowed, shoes and swimwear are required, and costumes are encouraged, especially if you're vying for the Golden Plunger Award for best costume. Actual plunging begins at 2 p.m. and is followed by a post-party in the heated clubhouse ($5 admission fee for non-plunging guests).
