Wing It

The people who run the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard) are no fools. They know the main attraction there will always be the plants, but they also recognize a nifty little sideline when they see it. Because the garden's world-class collection of flora attracts a legion of uninvited fauna, the Backyard Birding Festival helps offset the costs of all those feathered freeloaders pecking up the joint. At this event you'll be able to sharpen your birding skills with guided tours, workshops and activities, or just watch birds in the company of your eccentric peers. The festival takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the garden, and admission is $12 for adults and $5 for children ages eight to twelve. Pre-registration is required; call 314-577-9506 or see www.mobot.org to learn more and to save your spot.
