Show Some Love

Love is a many-splendored thing, or so they say. But forget April roses...what about the love for making music? Or how about the admiration of a local band? These things, too, are splendored — just ask RFT contributor Kristy Guttmann. She's made an eighteen-minute documentary about the group Maid Rite, of which she used to be a member (she played the washboard and tap-danced). According to the filmmaker, You Can Call Me Sweetheart is about "the community aspects of the band — [they're] women, musicians, mothers, St. Louisans." So what better way to spend Valentine's Day than at a lovely screening event for Sweetheart with the St. Louis sweethearts in Maid Rite? Just head to the Schlafly Bottleworks (7260 Southwest Avenue, Maplewood; 314-241-2337 or www.schlafly.com), where the short movie is shown at 8 and 10 p.m. Plus, the band performs after each screening, and prizes are raffled off. Admission to the film fun is $5, and the money raised will help pay for film-editing costs, the band's studio time and DVD reproduction.
